Full Name: Diego Ruiz De Gauna Lopez
Lomography Username: disdis
Location: Vitoria, Spain
Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?
I’m a father and a happily married man. Leo and Vasvas are my life and I try my best to take care of both of them, going out to “hunt” and to bring some food home. For bringing the food I work as a Marketing Director in a quite famous playing card company. Nevertheless, my interests are more about Lomography as a diary of my life, toy designing and loving art, cinema and illustration!
How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?
Seven years ago vasvas bought me a Supersampler… First roll was a disaster but I didn’t give up. Now I have them all.
Describe the LomoKino in five words.
Surprising – Moving – Pace – Kino Glaz – Amusing
Dziga Vertov definition of Kino-Glaz: “In the face of the machine we are ashamed of man’s inability to control himself, but what are we to do if we find the unerring ways of electricity more exciting than the disorderly haste of active people […]” “I am an eye. I am a mechanical eye. I, a machine, I am showing you a world, the likes of which only I can see”
How did you like shooting with the LomoKino?
In open air, with still things, using ASA 400 in black and white.
City in Black and White
What or who has inspired you to purchase and use the LomoKino?
I always remember seeing retro movies made with the Super 8. Now it’s time for the LomoKino! Getting it as a tester was decisive though I’m thinking of buying a finished one so I can keep the other as a souvenir!
Any funny or strange encounters you’ve had with it?
One day, one person asked me if that was a cookie jar. I was with Leo so that makes sense. He loves cookies!
If you could shoot any person alive or dead (or imaginary) with your LomoKino, who would it be and why?
I would like to make a movie about my father who has Lou Gehrig’s disease. I think it’s not necessary to say why.
Kindly share to us any LomoKino movie you love the most.
I love…
The Sad Story of Princess Ines by susielomovitz
and among the movies I’ve taken, I love,
Leo
Mainly because it’s the beginning of Leo’s story movie. A little bit like Truman show, isn’t it? (though I mixed both the LomoKino and a digital retro camera)
Any future plans with your LomoKino? More shoots or a full-length film perhaps?
I have two projects. Increasing Leo’s life story and shooting my Father (I will start tomorrow and I’m visiting them)
Your advice to future LomoKino users.
Hold it tight, use a fast flash and get good actors!
