Following the same route as part of daily routine means you invariably end up almost sleepwalking through familiar journeys. How many times have you looked up and found it difficult to remember anything about how you arrived at your destination? Trying to see stuff from a different angle helps overcome the boredom so that all of a sudden a once tedious part of my journey becomes totally fresh. I cross this road almost every day but now, thanks to these doubles, it will never be uninteresting again.

It was a great conclusion on my early summer asia trip: Gulang Yu. The island across Xiamen and not too far from Taiwan is a not so secret travel destination among chinese and it delivered some iconic views for me. A man fishing in front of an urban skyline - nothing more and nothing less represents china for me in pictures!

Going outside of Pyongyang was always was exciting. We were asked not to take shots, of what we saw on the road, but it was just too tempting. I think it is probably comparable to China 30 years ago. Lots of hard labour on the field and a certain degree of poverty. We saw the process of making salt - which In the DPRK is collected in designated salt fields - quite interesting. And I was happy to shoot some happy portraits at the nampo dam at the taedong river...
