In an arts for healing workshop in Dumaguete I had the privilege of working with a Malolos-based folk artist who's one among the very few at the forefront of reviving the dying art of 'puni' or leaf art. Her name is Rheeza Santiago-Hernandez and she masterfully creates wonderful things out of folding fresh coconut leaves or dried buri leaves. We were both part of 3-person facilitating team together with Peachy who is a clinical psychologist. She taught us to create balls, birds and stars out of young coconut leaves. I particularly had difficulty with creating the balls but found it easy to do the birds and the stars. Took these portraits against art collages during our trip to GP Rehab - an NGO helping children with disabilities and their families.
