On a lucky day a visit to the ice-skating rink in front of the Seoul City Hall can possibly give you the opportunity to meet an eccentric old man playing with hula hoops around his neck and hips. When I chanced upon him, he willingly posed before my camera. He even gave me his calling card with an old photo of him running for the Olympics marathon in Seoul in 1988.
Another interesting character you'll chance upon is a a local artisan whose wood carvings are displayed on the sidewalk near the gate of the Deoksugung Palace. He was working on another piece when I saw him. He did not mind me taking his photo but I noticed he tried to lower his head when I was taking some close-ups. His right hand is missing and is replaced by a small hammer. Not sure though if that was inborn or by an unfortunate accident. But he is such an artist worthy of admiration having transformed his disability into different ability.
