In this image, I have taken different elements of John Miller’s Paradise Lost and merged them into one scene. The most clearly visible is a human figure with his hand stretched out and reaching for an apple, which is a metaphor for Adam and Eve trying the Forbidden Fruit. The translucence of the apple suggests that it could never be fully grasped, just like a person can never fully control his or her irrational desires, such as greed and curiosity. Furthermore, the satanic hand gesture that hovers above the person’s almost non-distinguishable face illustrates the notion of possession, or being controlled by Satan. Finally, an image of the Tree of Knowledge intertwines with the other images, indicating the location where the event occurred.
