    I think your photos are beautiful scanned. How do you manage this quality with scan. Which scanner do you use? Best regards Boxerclaus

    Hi, Boxerclaus!
    Thank you for your message.
    I scan my negatives with Epson Perfection V550 Photo. I don't use any software installed apps like "grain reduction, dust removal, colour correction…”

    Just straight to MacBook and then some cleaning with Photoshop.

    Kind regards,
    Tero

    @boxerclaus Btw. These Helsinki-photos was my first serious photowalk with Hasselblad XPan. It’s pretty hard to keep in horizontal level. I also develop those negatives by myself - in bathroom. Got to keep it real 8-)

    @luusirkkeli Hi Tero.
    Thank you for your reply. I tried with Epson V550 but not with the same result as you. Now I have V800 but still, your results are better. Do you use fluid or just the plasticframe that comes with the scanner? I know your camera is top notch, but mine are to. I just don't get the same pleasing results, so I would just learn how you manage to get these fine photos. Can you tell me a little more about your post processing, and the film that your are using.
    Kind regards
    Claus

    @boxerclaus Hi, Claus!
    With Epson V550 I use the plastic frame which came with the scanner. I scan TIFF-files in 720 dpi or even 1200 dpi. I also sometimes do A LOT of ”cleaning” in Photoshop, removing dust etc. Then just sharpening, correcting levels etc. - but not that much.
    In Helsinki photowalk I used b&w Kodak T-Max 400 film. Most of the developing I got in local store, nothing too fancy (but painfully slow).

    Maybe the resolution of the scanning makes the trick? I really don’t know.

    Most of the time I shoot with basic Kodak Gold ISO 100 or 400, sometimes Kodak Ektar 100. Now with the XPan Ilford HP5.

    I’ve also checked a bunch of tutorial videos from Youtube, like how to make photos pop. Some of them has been useful, most of them not - at least for me. And you know, there’s a million hours to watch.

    Wish I could be more spesific, but I’m still learning, still trying and searching and learning more. Just a beginner, and very interested in film photography.

    Btw. Your photos here looks great!

    Hi Tero
    Thanks for quick reply. There are 4 things that we do different. You scan in a much lower resolution than I do. I scan up to 3200 dpi. Maybe I shold try only 720 or 1200 dpi.
    You use photoshop and I use Capture 1. We do almost the same in post processing.
    We don't use the same film. I mostly use FP4 or Fomapan.
    I develop the film at home and I understand that you go to the photo store for dev. I don't know if I could improve a lot in the developing of my films? Maybe. Only because it is easy, I always use rodinal as developer. I am trying out if this could improve with longer time in thinner dilution without or/and with less agitation, but did not come up with a conclusion yet.
    Now I will try to rescan some negatives in a lower resolution.
    Brgds. Claus
