Brian Bruno & Audrey Kitching: An Exploration in Purple

LomoAmigo Brian Bruno is no newbie to the LomoChrome Purple film . Working with the color-bending film before, Brian teamed up with his muse Audrey Kitching to shoot both the 35mm and 120mm formats of the film. We got to talk to both Brian and Audrey about their relationship and mutual love for Lomography products.

Brian:

Hi Brian welcome back, we're super excited to showcase these beautiful photos. Can you tell us, what projects have you been working on since we last spoke?

I have been getting ready to shoot out in the PNW at the end of the summer, which I’m looking forward to.

Your muse Audrey has been a frequent feature in your work. How'd you two meet?

We met when I asked her to be a part of my first book and we have been friends ever since.

What do you think is important for photographers to note when working with models?

Let the models be themselves and don’t ever make a model feel uncomfortable.

You've worked with the LomoChrome Purple film before, what do you like about working with this film?

I love how if you shoot it at different speeds you achieve a different look!

What approach did you take going into this shoot?

Audrey and I love going on adventures early on weekend mornings when most people are still in bed. There is a certain magic to creating at that time of the day.

Working with both the 35mm and 120mm film of LomoChrome Purple, what attributes of both formats do you enjoy?

The 120mm is perfect to get in close and the 35mm captures perfectly for stepping back a bit.

How has your relationship with Audrey bloomed over time, she has such a unique look in your photos, how'd that develop?

I think since she is my muse and it’s not even second guessing while working with her. It’s almost like a dance where we know where to step next.

What can we expect to see from you in the future?

Another book.

Audrey:

You've been working with Brian for such a long time, what separates him from other photographers you've worked with?

Me and Brian see each other as equals. I am an artist as well and in the past I was treated as just a model / subject for the photographer to do what they wanted with. I only shoot with Brian now. We flow so naturally that nothing else compares.

What is it about modeling that you enjoy the most?

I actually don’t consider myself a model, I just like to express myself through clothing, color and atmosphere.

You have a very unique look, what would you describe your aesthetic to be? How do you think that aesthetic translated on the LomoChrome Purple film?

A Rococo Angel. Or maybe an Earth Fairy. Defiently something from another era that isn’t from this planet. The film is perfect. It’s like were on Neptune or Venus on the beachy lavender dunes.

Brian works a lot with Lomography cameras and products, what about them do you enjoy?

My favorite thing is that its always an experiment and an adventure. The film is so great because you have to surrender part of the creative process to it. It’s like opening a present when you get the images back. Always a surprise.
