Benjamin Arias' Spanish Summer in Lomography 110

Mothers know best, and when French photographer Benjamin Arias' mother used to slip a disposable camera in his backpack on a school trip, little did she know she was training a future professional. Based out of Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, a small town next to Paris, Benjamin is a portrait and wedding photographer, dedicating his free time to landscapes and wildlife. He recently went back to analog, and before hopping on a holiday next to Barcelona this summer, acquired a 110 camera in a thrift shop. Along with some Lomography 110 film, he snapped some summer vacation souvenir in one of the smallest analog process possible!

How did you learn to take pictures?

I'm a self-thought photographer, I've learned everything by trial and mistake. It's been seven years that I've been passionate about photography.

Why do you still shoot analogue?

When I was younger and I would travel with my school, my mom would always pack a disposable camera in my bag. But my passion for photography really started with digital. I came back to analog less than a year ago and I really love it!

What inspires you?

My main inspiration is traveling and nature, but this got me to many other subjects, from portraits in nature, landscape, macro, and wildlife photography. I love street photography and 110 is perfect for that I think.

Why do you shoot in the 110 format?

Right before traveling this summer, I found a small 110 camera in a thrift shop. I'm very curious, so I just bought 3 Lomography films, threw them in my bag and started shooting!

What camera do you use?

My usual camera is a Kodak Mini Instamatic s30. But since I fell in love with my first 110 pictures, I just invested in a Pentax Auto110.

What are the challenges you face with 110 film? What are the advantages?

The real advantage of 110 is its transportability! It really is the kind of camera I would always have on me, it's even smaller than my iPhone...

From the pictures you sent us, do you have a favorite one, and can you tell us about it?

I love the picture with the building reflection in the puddle of water it was shot with the LomoChrome Purple and I think it really highlights the details in the image.

LomoChrome Purple!

Do you have any tips to give to people who are shooting 110?

It's really simple to shoot pictures with a 110 camera, most of them are very basic in terms of manual functions, so it's very much point and shoot and I love that. Plus the cameras are tiny so you have no excuse not to have it with you wherever you go.
