Freedom of the City

For the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Navy the Victoria Police gave the Freedom of the City to the Navy so they could celebrate. Freedom of the City basically means a brach of the armed forces can ask permission to have more sailors in the city (there is a limit as to how many can be in a city during peace time) and the navy was allowed to control the city for the day (as in they could have a parade and have control of the streets). It was a very formal occasion (the Admiral must knock on the door of city hall three times with the hilt of sword, the Police block the roads in front of the Navy until the permission is given, and the police must escourt the Navy until permission is given) and one that made most Canadians proud to have such an amazing Navy and armed forces.
