Humans of Orlando - This is Enrique Hernandez, better known as Selfismo. [meaning his ownself] He’s a local Orlando artist, originating from Cuba. Selfismo’s art is one of a kind - what might take people by surprise is that he’s a one-handed artist. When Selfismo was 17, back in Cuba he was assaulted by a group of men after a night out with some friends. One of the men pulled out a samurai sword, attacked him - cutting off his entire left hand. This tragic event changed his life forever, thankfully Selfismo didn’t give up on his passion instead he used that catastrophe as steam to power his dreams. These photos are of Selfismo and his art inside his studio/home. Being able to see how he uses all his resources to bring his art to life was breathtaking. Painting on his own clothes, skateboards, and walls. ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING AVAILABLE to him. Even using a pasta sauce can as his water/tool container. Selfismo is a prime example of how important it is to be persistent in life. “The only time progress comes before struggle is in the dictionary.”
