She Said Yes :)

Well if you have been keeping up with my Lomo page lately, you will see that not much has changed. Life gets in the way sometimes and I had to cut some things out, sadly photography was one of them for a time but now I am back and ready for action. But that is not the point of this blog, the point is to tell you the story of how I proposed to my now fiance Allison.

I was down in Florida with my family visiting Walt Disney World (thanks Mom for holding the ring in your purse all week). Allison was on a 6-week study abroad trip in Costa Rica. I made the only sensible choice and thought, “Well I am already half way down, might as well go visit her.” Practical, right? Now mind you I don’t speak a lick of Spanish and I barely understand much more than the basics so this was a scary thing for me, a gringo going down to a foreign country, alone. Did I mention I was gonna drive too? Yeah, that was an experience in of itself.

Anyways, after a three hour flight to San Jose, I got all my stuff together, got my car, and proceeded to spend the next 3 hours driving to a place that should have only took 20 minutes. Yup, I was scared but the friendly security guard at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, I think his name was Diego, helped me out and set me on the right path. (I would just like to note here that if you ever go to Costa Rica, don’t waste your money on the GPS, it is useless and you will tank me for the extra $15 a day that you saved not getting it).

After about 20 minutes in the right direction, I finally made it to Conversa, a school for English speakers to learn the language and culture of Costa Rica. Did I mention that it was pouring down rain and that the school was on a crazy steep mountain, they said it was a hill, it was a mountain. But I digress. When I saw Allison, it took everything in me not to break down right there and fall apart, it had been a long day and I was just about spent.

We then went back to my hotel room and were catching up, looking around the fancy kitchenette. By that time, I was shaking with excitement and anxiousness but I tried to keep it together. I had told Allison that I was gonna propose to her this year but I hadn’t told her when and I sorta told her that I didn’t have enough time to do it here in Costa Rica so I was pretty sure she didn’t suspect. As she was turned around to look at something in the kitchen, I said, I do have one question for ya," took the ring from my pocket, got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes and about knocked me over hugging me. It was the happiest moment in my life (so far).

So that’s the story, the story of how love took me out of my comfort zone and into the jungle, well technically rain forest and that was only a couple days. We spent the rest of my time there together, we even took a trip out to Manuel Antonio, a beautiful beach town where we had the most amazing Hawaiian Pizza at El Wagon, made by our new friend Cesar. All in all, it was the most terrifying and fun vacation I ever had.
