The protest demonstration on the Liberation Day - 03.03.2013
Thousands of young people gathered in downtown Sofia for the Liberation day, but they didn't want to celebrate. They wanted to express their upset about the poverty and misery, about political lies and hypocrisy.
@kibs The flowers are for the newly built memorial of General Iosif Gurko (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iosif_Gurko), a prominent military commander of the Russian armies during the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), which led to the creation of the Kingdom (Tsardom) of Bulgaria and ended a nearly 500 years period of occupation by the Otoman Empire:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Turkish_War_%281877%E2%80%93187… The memorial can be seen here:
www.lomography.com/homes/adash/albums/1937778-the-liberatio… General Gurko is considered an important figure in Bulgarian history. We also have streets named after him, but this is the only memorial that I know of.
