Bitterwasser is a (sail) airfield on the edge of the Kalahari region, about 170km southeast of Windhoek and about eight kilometers northwest of Hoachanas. The course and the gliding center is one of the best in the world. Here numerous world records have been set due to the good thermal conditions. Records and other flight services are immortalized with a planted palm. Thus arose gradually the palm alley. These many years of tradition is maintained today and is one of the attractions of bittern.
