Whakapapa (NZ #8)

Climbing on Mount Victoria, or Tangi Te Keo as the Māori call it, gives you the best view on Welly. Seeing the skilful totem or Pou (name for statue in Māori) on the top made me think of Whakapapa, the Māori Geneaology and base for all storytelling of life and the world...

I always thought it was "whakapapa"... "Waka" is a boat after all ;) But then, being a "dumb Pakeha" (white fella), what would I know?

you are right @lizkoppert and I am probably Pakeha as Pakeha can be. But Maori culture really really interests me...

You and me both, @wil6ka! Despite there being an Ashkenazi Jew swinging around in my whakapapa (as well as Dutch)! Māori culture IS interesting. Sez me, who visited Takahanga Marae (ngaitahu.iwi.nz/te-runanga-o-ngai-tahu/papatipu-runanga/kai…) earlier this month. I have a sense that you and @lomodesbro would love it out there.
