Giacomo Albertini was born in 1973 in Verona, where he still resides. At the age of eleven he started and became passionate about photography using the small Ricoh camera. He mainly dedicates himself to reportage and street photography. For over six years he has specialized in social photography and works above all on the theme of disability and rare diseases.
My aim is to spread the world of disability and rare diseases to make them known to those who have no direct experience of them.
I focus a lot on the history of individuals, because I think that in life everything is possible and any difficult situation can be faced and overcome: who better than a disabled person can testify to this?
Photographing disabled people and people with rare diseases offers me the opportunity to dare them the dignity they deserve: my direct experience helps me bridge the gap between ignorance and awareness.
I learned that everything is possible in life and that the problems generated by prejudices can be overcome. Furthermore, the meeting with people with disabilities made me understand the meaning of life better.
