I agree.
It was one of those scorching hot days in Chongqing — heavy air, soaked shirt, and a sky so pale and hazy that even the great Portra 400 couldn’t bring it back to life.
But Ciqikou Old Town has its own charm: narrow alleyways packed with people, the smell of sizzling street food in the air, and old ladies selling handmade crafts from improvised stools along the sidewalk.
Souvenir shops are absolutely everywhere, of course — but there’s still something real in the chaos, something deeply photogenic.
Ciqikou is a street photography dream: candid moments, vibrant textures, and the kind of atmosphere that doesn’t need perfect light to shine.
But shooting film in China? That’s a whole other story.Every time you enter the metro, your entire backpack — camera included — gets x-rayed.
I came back half-expecting my whole roll to be fried…and yeah, sadly, quite a few good shots were visibly damaged.
Still, a few frames made it through.
